Day 64: Grandpa Carving the Turkey

Grandpa Carving the Turkey
11/24
Happy Thanksgiving! After having a Thanksgiving with my dad, I had Thanksgiving again with my mom on the real day. As usual dinner was cooked and served at my grandparent's house, where my Grandmother cooked almost everything you can possibly think of. It is also a tradition for my grandfather to be the one to carve the turkey (here my mom is helping too). I took several pictures this day, just to document the holiday for my family without really knowing which picture I was going to use for my blog. I settled on this one because this tradition is something that normally I wouldn't really appreciate. Reflecting on it now, it is pretty important I have this picture. It is the little things in life that we some times over look that we really miss when they are gone...so here is my moment to appreciate a little thing.

Day 63: On the Drive Home

On the Drive Home

11/23
I was driving back to San Antonio from Floresville with my brother and had to stop to take a picture of this beautiful sunset. Every time I drive down there, I always tell myself I want to take more pictures of this landscape. There isn't much out there but trees, sky, a few cows, and lots of empty space. I think I find it refreshing to be in a place that isn't dominated with tall buildings or the hussle & bussel of traffic, while not being too far from San Antonio and this was my moment to capture that. While driving home, I pulled over and out of the window of my car (which wasn't very steady) took a long exposure. It was at this moment I realized I had forgotten something at my Grandmothers house and needed to go back to get it so my photo session got interrupted. (Now, I don't even remember what that thing I forgot was) In frustration I put the camera away, turned around and SPED back to Floresville. One can only guess what happened..... I got pulled over just as I was about to get back to my Grandmother's house. I was super pissed and embarrassed since I had my little brother in the car with me (what a role model) Grrrrr! So the cop comes and takes my info and while I was sitting in the car waiting, out of nowhere my dad walks up! Apparently he had tried to call me because he had heard sirens (from some other accident) not to long after we had left, when I didn't answer he walked outside because he was worried. How convenient that I was there getting stopped by a cop and my father shows up? How embarrassing ...!?! So I end up with warming and not a ticket, get whatever it was I forgot at my grandmother's, and then head home to SA. What a long story for a pretty picture.

Day 62: The Court House

The Court House

11/22
I drove to Floresville, Texas to visit with my dad  for the Thanksgiving holiday. Since there is never much to do in a small town, we usually take walks from my Grandmother's house to downtown. On this walk, accompanied by my dad and brother, I took some late night pictures of the "downtown", which is really just a street. It's really old and pretty deserted, but I love the way these building represent the history of the town. The court house is the most dominate part of this street and something I always admired when I was little. I remember always wanting to look at it and "The Peanut", a statue of a peanut close by the court house, whenever we visited Floresville. This picture reminds me of that feeling when I was little...but with a touch of night.
