Day 27: Watch Dog

Watch Dog
10/18
And here he is again! I went out late to get a picture for the day and yet again Charlie was my inspiration. As I walked out the door, he stopped at the edge of the porch to look out into the yard.I really liked how the light came in from a street lamp highlighting Charlie observing his surroundings.

Day 26: Pattern on the Floor

Pattern on the Floor
10/17
This is the tile on the floor at my grandparents house. It is pretty much this same design throughout the entire house and definitely one of those little comforts I talked about awhile ago.  So on day 26, I decided that it needed to be photographed for safe keeping.

Day 25: A Kiss on the Bridge

A Kiss on the Bridge
10/16
On this day, I had the pleasure of taking Robyn and Tino's engagement photos at the Japanese Tea Garden. Robyn was my closet friend from elementary to high school and it was nice to be able to take these pictures for her (as wedding gift). The day had started a little frustrating, but the more time I spent with them, the more comfortable we all were with each other. I am very excited about the pictures I shot for them and here is one of many I really liked.

Day 24: The Duck Pond

The Duck Pond

10/15
On my way home from work, I stopped by "the duck pond" (as we called it when I was little) at the entrance into my grandparents neighborhood. I have visited this spot before to photograph, it happens to be the site for a image from Chrysalis (my senior thesis project). Then, the pond looked much better, now everything around it has over grown and the surface of the water is covered in this yucky mossy stuff. The water wasn't even visible with this solid layer of green moss. I tossed a few branches in just to see the movement of the water. This picture has this eerie calm to it, which is very different from  "Support" (the image from my thesis project). It is interesting how the same place can make you feel very different just by the changing of the seasons.

Day 23: Vent

Vent
10/14
It was late and I was scrambling to take a picture before midnight....so the vent on the floor caught my attention. Nothing more to really say, just a simple quick picture.

Day 22: The Silver Flare

The Silver Flare
10/13
On this afternoon, I attended my brothers band concert at his middle school. I always enjoy seeing him perform because it is something we have in common. I happened to be in band from middle school to high school and played trumpet too (that happens to be my trumpet he is holding). I love knowing that we have that instrument in common, it meant a lot to me to pass it down to him. So at this concert, I tried to get a good picture of him, but he doesn't ever really enjoy me taking his picture. As he was walking to sit down to play for the concert, I snapped this one quick as he passed me. I really enjoy this picture because of his expression, it is definitely a "how dare you take my picture" look, what a teenager.

Day 21: Shower Flowers

Shower Flowers
10/12
For some reason, I have always liked these flowers on the bottom of the shower at my grandparents house. Now that I use this shower all the time, I always see the flowers I thought were cool. So here is my picture to document the flowers at the bottom of the shower.

Day 20: Airport Sunrise

Airport Sunrise
10/11
I left Boston bright and early on a Monday morning. While waiting to board my plane back to San Antonio, I witnessed this beautiful sunrise. I thought it was a good ending to my trip since it began with a sunset.

Day 19: Before Fall

Before Fall
10/10
I went to Boston right before all the trees changed colors so I only saw a little bit of color, but it was definitely better then the yucky colors in Texas. I took this picture on my last evening there accompanied by my Aunt. This pond or lake (whatever you want to call it) was pretty close to their house in Norwood and I took this picture before the sun started to set.

Day 18: Picking Pumpkins

Picking Pumpkins
10/9
During my visit to Boston, it was wonderful to see so many pumpkins. On this day, we stopped at a nursery (to ask for directions) and bought a few pumpkins. I had some time to take pictures of some of the pumpkins I love so much! It was fantastic to see so many, I really didn't know that there were so many varieties. It was like pumpkin heaven in Boston! I loved seeing pumpkins everywhere I went.

Day 17: The Bride & Groom

The Bride & Groom
10/8
During my trip to Boston, my Aunt and cousin took me downtown for dinner. At the end of the night when we were walking back to the car, we walked through this courtyard that had lights and a water fountain. There was a crowd of people sitting around this fountain and lots of children running through it getting wet. A photographer was shooting wedding pictures for a bride and groom with everyone else in the background. I think this images shows that important things are happening all the time, and that you can be a part of someone else's happy moment without evening meaning too. It is just a happy thought and a happy memory with my family. Being at the right place at the right time and capturing the perfect moment.

Day 16: Leaving San Antonio

Leaving San Antonio
10/7
I took this on a plane as I was leaving San Antonio to visit some of my family in Boston. The sunset was so pretty that I had to whip out my camera and take a picture. I am sure I looked strange to the guy sitting next to me, but I couldn't help it. How often does one see the sunset while they are thousands of miles in the air? I can't remember seeing this before so it was a perfect photo opportunity for me.

Day 15: Window Curtain

Window Curtain
10/6
I decided to do another long exposure of the window in my bathroom at my grandparents. Those curtains have been there as long as I can remember so I felt like they were something worth documenting. The light in the window is coming from a street lamp at the next house.

Day 14: Mask

10/5
This is a mask I bought in New Orleans when I went on a trip there with my sister earlier this summer. It is now a decoration in my room and was a last minute photo opt for the day.

Day 13: Fallen

Fallen
10/4
A leaf from the pecan tree was laying all alone on the front porch. I liked the gesture of the fallen leaf on the wood, two things that were once united are now back together. I absolutely love this picture by the way.

Day 12: Experiment

Experiment
10/3
I have been playing around with long exposures lately since I have never really done it before and I shoot a lot more at night now. This was just a simple experiment with an outside light one night (at my grandparents) and the color was changed when I edited the picture.

Day 11: Those Damn Squirrels

Those Damn Squirrels
10/2
Since I moved in with my grandparents back in August, all I hear about is "those damn squirrels" and their crazy behavior! My grandparents have a pecan tree in their yard that the squirrels love to run around in. Usually my grandmother is able to collect tons of pecans for the family to use all year long, but that hasn't been the case this year. Since it has been so dry in Texas the pecans didn't grow very well and the few that did, were eaten by squirrels. After hearing about "those damn squirrels" again, I thought I needed to document the recent activities of them. I sat on the porch and waited for a crazy squirrel to run around. I didn't have to wait long before pecan shells started falling from the tree showing where the squirrel was. And here he is chomping away.

Day 10: Triangles

Triangles
10/1
I noticed this spider web on the frame of a swing set I used to play on as a kid in my grandparents yard. I liked how the web mimicked the same shape as the swing set (a triangle shape). Now that I look at it, there seem to be a lot of triangles in this picture.

Day 9: Night Light

Night Light
9/30
This is the outside light at my grandparents house that lights up their front yard and driveway. When I went outside to take a picture, this light was the first thing to catch my attention on my way out the door. I liked the contrast between the side of the house to the emptiness in the dark background.

Day 8: Rain, Rain, Please Stay!

Rain, Rain, Please Stay!
9/29
After weeks of horrible hot days in Texas, rain was something everyone was really hoping would happen soon. When I got home from work, it rained hard for the first time in a long time. I decided that the shower should be my picture for the day since it was such a big deal. This was taken on my grandparents driveway where I was safe under the carport.

Day 7: Charlie

Charlie

9/28
On this day, like most, my dog Charlie accompanied me while I went out searching for a picture. Out of a few other images I shot, I found this one of him to be the most interesting. His company is always a huge comfort and my days are usually better when I get to see him. So here is the first picture of him...since I am sure he will show up many more times this year.
